Key Industry Players Strengthen Mawdsleys Offer
Key Industry Players Strengthen Mawdsleys Offer 1st October 2014

New appointments at Mawdsleys will give pharmacies and hospitals an even more competitive wholesale service.

Gary Winkle from Co-Op Pharmacy will be replacing Gerry Kennedy as Purchasing Director following Gerry’s retirement. Gary’s appointment comes at a time when pharmacist Dr Omar Shakoor joins Mawdsleys from well- known supermarket chain Morrisons to become the new Pharmaceutical Services Director.

Gary Winkle has over 30 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical supply chain which included the role of European Purchase Manager at Co-Op Pharmacy and, prior to that, 26 years in senior roles at Celesio.  He was also responsible for the origination of Trident Pharmaceuticals in 1995.

Gary says “Mawdsleys are an extremely well-run professional company with a clear vision for the future. Over the years they have built up a very loyal customer base, and I believe they have great potential to further enhance their position as one of the leading independent healthcare supply chain solution providers. I am looking forward to playing a key role in this.”

Mawdsleys’ Managing Director Ian Brownlee says “The appointment of Gary is going to further strengthen Mawdsleys’ offering, as he has much experience and many solid contacts in the pharmaceutical supply chain; this can only help to further improve the competitiveness of our offer to the NHS and primary care sector.”

Dr Omar Shakoor replaces long-standing member of the board John Davies following his retirement. Prior to Morrisons, Omar worked at Asda where he held a variety of trading positions over a ten year period in their head office in Leeds, primarily in pharmacy buying but also in pharmacy contract acquisition. Omar also spent three years with the Company Chemists’ Association and so has a very strong retail background.

Omar says of his appointment “joining Mawdsleys is the start of a new and exciting challenge for me. I am looking forward to using my retailing background to help our customers and add value to the Mawdsleys’ offer.  I am really proud to be playing a role in Mawdsleys’ changing and exciting future.”

Ian continues: “At Mawdsleys we are completely focussed on ensuring the company is set for the future – this means we have worked hard to recruit the right people who will help ensure we continue to provide competitive and innovative solutions for our customers, and an even stronger value proposition.”
